Cricketers Norfolk
Alston Architects took on a self-build renovation and extension to a 1930's farm workers cottage in rural North Norfolk, set in amongst agricultural fields with forests in the background. The intention was to create a retreat that maximises views out to the countryside, with a series of peaceful and calming living spaces.
A mixture of traditional and contemporary building materials were used, including brick to reflect the construction of the original house and timber cladding inspired by the vernacular construction of nearby agricultural barns. A green roof enhances the bio-diversity of the house and ensures that it blends harmoniously into its setting.
The project was entered into the design and craftsmanship awards 2021, a regional award scheme affiliated with RIBA East. The project received one of 3 commendation awarded in the domestic extension and new build housing category.
